Lived in by the same family for nearly four hundred years, the house now offers 21st Century standards of comfort, combining elegant modern décor with old world charm.  The house has recently been re-designed by Architectural Digest Top 100 Interior Designer, Jeffrey Bilhuber and has been featured by Galerie Magazine.  A magical place surrounded by 62 acres of gardens & grounds. The house is located on the outskirts of Yeovil, which in Roman times was on the main road from Dorchester to the Fosse at Ilchester.

The house is on the outskirts of the small market town of Yeovil. The town sits in the southern part of the county close to the border with the neighboring county of Dorset.

History

Newton Surmaville house was built by local merchant Robert Harbin and completed in 1612.

The family continued to live here for the next four hundred years with the current owner returning the home to family ownership.

The house has undergone many renovations over the last couple of centuries but the charm of the original building has been preserved whilst a lot of 21st Century comfort has been added for the enjoyment of our guests.

What facilities do you offer for private events?

Newton Surmaville offers guests 9 luxurious bedrooms and 8 bathrooms with plenty of further accommodation available locally. The house has 5 spacious and very elegant reception rooms and the décor is stylish and very welcoming. The gardens are extensive and there is plenty of space for marquees on the lawns. There is a long drive up to the house and woodland surrounds the property providing a nice feeling of privacy.

Is there a coach house for parties?

At the rear of the house there is an elegant coach house which could be used as a great party space for private events. There are a couple of large rooms within this building and outside an area where a marquee could be erected providing further space for guest dining or dancing.

Are there parking facilities?

Beside the coach house there is plenty of parking. This area would be accessed by driving up the main drive and past the house which could be floodlit providing a dramatic arrival for guests.
