History

The family continued to live here for the next four hundred years with the current owner returning the home to family ownership.

The house has undergone many renovations over the last couple of centuries but the charm of the original building has been preserved whilst a lot of 21st Century comfort has been added for the enjoyment of our guests.

Harriet Roberts

Harriet Roberts, Newton Surmaville House Manager

Harriet Roberts

House Manager

Harriet has always had a love of property and a keen eye for aesthetics and detail. Her knowledge of the hospitality industry is extensive, having carried out a variety of domestic roles throughout her career. Harriet’s time in Scotland was interesting and varied; it saw her cook for Belgian royalty as well as oversee an extensive refurbishment of the main shooting lodge.  However, Somerset was always considered to be home. Her goal now is to make Newton Surmaville feel like a home away from home for you.

Stuart Pitts

Estate Manager

With over 7 years of experience in Estate Management, Stuart is a keen outdoorsman with a love for everything it entails. His career began with Game Keeping in his home county of Somerset.  This took him to Scotland, where both he and Harriet spent five years working on two, very rural, Highland Estates. The draw of home brought them back to Somerset in 2020, where Stuart can now generally be found out in the gardens or parkland of Newton Surmaville with a large but very friendly canine companion in tow.
