choose?
1. Visit the Jurassic Coast
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to some of the most stunning coastal scenery in the UK, with Jurassic-era cliffs, beaches, and coves. Whilst here, you can even try your luck at searching for prehistoric fossils!

2. Go Rock Climbing
There are many great rock climbing spots in Somerset and Dorset, including Cheddar Gorge, Lulworth Cove, and Portland Bill. If you’re a beginner, there are plenty of places to learn.

3. Go Surfing
The beaches in Dorset and Devon are perfect for surfing, with waves suitable for beginners and experienced surfers alike. You can hire boards and wetsuits from local surf shops and take lessons from a qualified instructor.

4. Go Sailing
There are some great opportunities to go sailing in Dorset, with plenty of sailing schools and clubs offering lessons and boat hire. You could visit many locations on the coast or Sutton Bingham Reservoir is located less than ten minutes away.

5. Go Hiking
There are many great hiking trails in Somerset, Dorset and Devon, ranging from leisurely walks to challenging hikes. You can explore the countryside, forests, and coastline, and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding area. There are some wonderful trails leading directly from Newton Surmaville Estate – where will you explore?!

6. Go Clay Pigeon Shooting
There are also some great facilities in the local area where you can try your hand at clay pigeon shooting. Accessible to all abilities, this would be a great way to spend an afternoon and experience one of the UKs
leading countryside sports.

7. Go Fishing
There are many rivers and lakes in Somerset and Dorset, including the River Yeo that runs through the Estate. You can fish for trout or chubb and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. Sea fishing can also be arranged if you would prefer a trip to the coast.

8. Go Kayaking and Paddle Boarding
There are a number of places you can visit including the Sutton Bingham Reservoir, the River Parrett only 25 minutes away in nearby Langport or Wimbleball Lake a bit further afield. We also have Kayaks on the Estate if you wanted to try your hand here on the river that runs through the Estate.

9. Go Bird Watching
Somerset and Dorset are home to a wide variety of birds, making them great places for bird watching. You can spot birds of prey, such as buzzards and owls, as well as songbirds, such as robins and blue tits. The wildlife at Newton Surmaville itself is wonderful and so if you’re an animal enthusiast this is the place for you – keep your eyes peeled!

10. Have a Picnic
There are many beautiful spots in Somerset and Dorset where you can enjoy a lunchtime or evening picnic, including our own parklands and neighbouring countryside. Our wonderful chef can pack a basket with your
favourite food and drinks, you can find a spot with a spectacular view and relax in the sunshine.
